First Omani surgeon to obtain the Canadian Board of General Surgery 

Surgeon Aziza bint Nasser Al-Rawahiyeh obtained the Canadian Board in Thoracic, Lung, and Esophageal Surgery from the Canadian University of Ottawa; To become the first Omani surgeon in this specialty.

Dr. Aziza  said: Obtaining the Canadian board in chest, lung and esophageal surgery came after obtaining the Canadian board in general surgery, where I specialized in general surgery, which included 5 years of training, and then two years of training in general surgery. Chest, lung and esophagus surgery at Ottawa Hospital in the Canadian capital, Ottawa.

She explained that this specialty is concerned with the surgical treatment of diseases that affect the organs inside the rib cage except for the heart, such as the lungs, trachea, rib cage, thymus gland, diaphragm and extends to the esophagus and stomach. In diagnosing the disease, treating it medically or surgically, and then the aftercare that includes follow-up after treatment for a period of time to ensure that the disease does not return in any way.

The doctor mentioned that surgery of the chest, lung and esophagus is one of the renewable specializations because of its innovative surgical techniques and research in cancer sciences that have changed the treatment pattern for the better. This, the doctor referred to her scientific career, which began in 2010 after graduating from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, then she joined the Royal Hospital to complete a year of internship in internal medicine, general surgery and pediatrics, and with her work for long hours in general surgery between the corridors of surgery wards and operating rooms began Her passion for surgery increased not only because she found her comfort in it, but also the surgery added beautiful features to my life and personality such as leadership, responsibility, focus, constant movement and effective time management. This passion prompted me to apply for the general surgery program at the Omani Council of Medical Specialties.

The path of Dr. Al-Jarrah was not easy, but she faced it with confidence, and this is what she confirmed by saying: My career included studies in Britain, Ireland and Canada. Differences in cultures, religions and social concepts were one of the challenges of alienation, and overcoming them was through coexistence, acceptance of difference and respect for the other opinion without any fanaticism, and this What I find in the Almighty’s saying: “And among His signs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the diversity of your languages ​​and colors. Indeed, in that are signs for the worlds.”

The surgeon, Aziza Al-Rawahiyya, said: I dedicate my success to the soul of the late Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed, the first supporter of postgraduate studies abroad, as I had the honor of obtaining several scholarships during his auspicious era to complete my studies and specialization a year ago. 2004, and there is no word that my parents and husband died for their support and support for me in all circumstances.
