Fisheries Development Oman launches ACILA Fishing vessel

Muttrah: The Fisheries Development Oman Company celebrated this evening in Port Sultan Qaboos in the Wilayat of Muttrah the launch of “ACILA” Fishing Vessel under the patronage of His Excellency Sultan bin Salem Al Habsi, Minister of Finance, as the newest fishing vessel to join the fleet of the Oman Pelagic Fish Company affiliated to the group.

The vessel was designed to the highest international standards, which reflects Oman Fisheries Development Company’s commitment to sustainable fishing practices and economic growth in the fisheries sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

Munir bin Ali Al Muniri, Chairman of the Oman Fisheries Development Board, said: “Aquila” is an advanced fishing vessel whose construction was completed last month, and it proudly flies the flag of the Sultanate of Oman.

The Omani Surface is affiliated to the Oman Fisheries Development Company, which is owned by the Omani Investment Authority. Al-Muniri stressed that the Oman Fisheries Development Group acts as an enabling entity for the development of the fisheries sector, and places great emphasis on enhancing fish production, supplying the local market with various fish, enabling added value, and increasing the contribution of the fisheries sector to the GDP.

The group is also working on several initiatives to achieve environmental sustainability, in addition to promoting and developing the local fishing industry, which are priorities consistent with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

Engineer Nabil bin Salem Al Bimani, CEO of Oman Fisheries Development Company, said: “The ship ‘Aquila’ embodies the company’s commitment to sustainable fishing practices while maintaining the highest levels of quality. With this investment, we are strengthening the position of the Sultanate of Oman as an attractive investment destination locally and internationally in the fisheries sector.”

These development projects are in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources with the aim of promoting sustainable utilization of fish wealth resources, preserving them for future generations, and preserving the marine heritage of fishermen in the Sultanate of Oman.

Al Bimani added that the ship “Aquila” symbolizes innovation, sustainability and economic development and is an important step towards diversifying the Sultanate of Oman’s economy and employing the huge potential of the fisheries sector, in line with the goals of “Oman Vision 2040” to achieve food safety and security in the Sultanate.

Dawood bin Sulaiman Al Wahaibi, CEO of the Oman Peak Fish Company, said about the details of the ship “Aquila” that it is 85 meters long, has a capacity of 1,800 cubic meters, and carries a total tonnage of 2,480 tons and a static load of 1,900 tons, to work efficiently, which improves its capabilities. Fishing while minimizing the impact on the environment. This is in line with the core values ​​of Oman Fisheries Development, which focus on the responsible use of renewable resources such as biomass and small marine fish.

The launching ceremony of the ship, which was attended by His Excellency Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, and a number of their Excellencies and Excellencies, included an introductory tour of the ship’s content and its capabilities and advanced technologies.

It is worth noting that the Sultanate of Oman has a long maritime history as a trading country that linked East Africa, the Indian subcontinent, and the Arab Gulf states.
