Fisheries projects in South Al Batinah Governorate contribute to GDP in Oman

Rustaq: Fish production in the states of Musannah and Barka in the Governorate of South Al Batinah during the past year amounted to approximately 9,975 tons, with a total value of more than 8,608 thousand Omani riyals, with this governorate contributing 7.5 percent of the total production of the Sultanate of Oman.

In this regard, the Directorate General of Agricultural, Fisheries and Water Resources in the Al Batinah South Governorate indicated that the governorate is one of the coastal governorates in the Sultanate of Oman that overlooks the Sea of ​​Oman, as it has 6 states, including two coastal states, Barka and Al Musanna. The governorate provides promising investment opportunities in the fisheries sectors.

Basem bin Suwaid Al Subhi, Acting Director of the Fish Wealth Department, told Oman News Agency: The number of artisanal fishermen in the Governorate of South Al Batinah reached 3,710 until the end of last year, including 2,394 in the Wilayat of Barka and 1,316 in the Wilayat of Al Musanna, while the artisanal fishing boats reached 1,618 boats. In the Wilayat of Barka, there were 1,028 craft fishing boats, while the number in Musannah was 590 boats.
