Muscat: The volume of foreign direct investments increased by the end of the first quarter of this year by 23.3 percent to reach 21.270 billion OMR, with financial flows estimated at OMR4.20 billion, compared to an investment volume of OMR17.250 billion, during the first quarter of 2022.
According to preliminary data issued by the National Center for Statistics and Information, the oil and gas extraction activities sector has acquired the largest volume of foreign direct investment until the end of the first quarter of 2023, with a value of RO 15,835,700,000, up from RO 11,697,700,000.
Followed by the activity of manufacturing industries with RO 1,571, 400, down from RO 1,671,600 thousand, then the activity of financial intermediation with RO 1,514,000,000, up from RO 1,460,800,000
Foreign direct investment in real estate activities decreased to one billion and 44 million and 400 thousand Omani riyals at the end of the first quarter in 2023 from one billion and 48 million and 300 thousand RO at the end of the first quarter of 2022 with a decrease in foreign direct investment in other activities to one billion and 308 million and 900 thousand riyals Omani from one billion and 373 million and 900 thousand Omani riyals.
The United Kingdom topped foreign direct investments with a value of RO 10,352,100,000, followed by the United States with RO 3,508,300,000, then China with RO 1,231,500,000.
While the value of investments from the United Arab Emirates amounted to 934 million and 900 thousand Omani riyals, from Kuwait 778.3 million and 300 thousand Omani riyals, from the State of Qatar 431 million and 200 thousand Omani riyals, from the Kingdom of Bahrain 375 million and 100 thousand Omani riyals, and from the Republic of India 296 million and 400 One thousand Omani riyals, 291 million and 500 thousand Omani riyals from the Netherlands, 181 million and 900 thousand Omani riyals from Switzerland, while the value of direct foreign investments from other countries amounted to two billion 893 million and 200 thousand Omani riyals.
