    • French Rider Veistroffer Claims Red Jersey After Stage 2 Triumph

    Tour of Oman: Veistroffer Dominates Mountain Finish at Yitti Highlands

    Muscat:  French rider Baptiste Veistroffer of Team Lotto–Intermarché claimed a decisive victory in the demanding Stage 2 of the Tour of Oman 2026, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth in cooperation with the Oman Cycling Association and a number of governmental and private partners.

    Eritrea’s Henok Mulubrhan of Team XDS Astana secured a strong second place, while French rider Thibaud Gruel of Team Groupama–FDJ United finished third.

    Veistroffer’s commanding performance earned him the overall leader’s red jersey. The gold jersey for the most aggressive rider went to Poland’s Patryk Goszczurny of Team Visma | Lease a Bike, while Veistroffer also claimed the green points jersey. The white jersey for best young rider (under 23) was awarded to Thibaud Gruel.

    The stage started at the historic Al Rustaq Fort, with riders tackling a challenging 191.5-kilometre route. The course passed through Al Rustaq, Al Awabi and Nakhal, entering Wadi Al Ma’awil before heading towards Al Lajal and the Buwa–Fanja road. The peloton then crossed Fanja Souq and the Al Rusayl Industrial Estate, passed the Royal Hospital, and climbed Al Murtafa’a.

    Riders continued through central Muscat via Al Ghubra, descended Al Ansab Road onto the Muscat Expressway, and pushed through Bousher and Al Amerat, before turning left into Wadi Adai. The stage concluded with a grueling summit finish at the Yitti Highlands, following a demanding climb through Al Hamriya.

    The awards ceremony was held at the finish line and was presided over by Basil bin Ahmed Al Rowas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports.

    The Tour of Oman continues tomorrow (Monday) with Stage 3, starting from the Al Fayhaa rest area in Samail. Riders will head through the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, turning onto Wadi Mahram Road, passing through Wadi Endam, Al Qaryateen, Izki, and Birkat Al Mawz. The stage will then climb through Ghubra Nizwa, Wadi Kamah, and Tanuf, pass the renowned Al Hoota Cave near Al Hamra, and finish with a punishing ascent to Misfat Al Abriyeen.
