From education to cultural diplomacy, meet Her Excellency Ambassador Amna Al Balushi

Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on Monday has issued Royal Decree No. 38/2024 on granting an official the rank of “Ambassador” and appointing her as the Permanent Representative of the Sultanate of Oman to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).

Who is Her Excellency Ambassador Amina Al Balushi?

Her Excellency has held several important positions in education and culture. She began her career as an English language teacher, then held several administrative positions, most notably: Secretary of the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, Assistant Secretary of the Omani National Commission for Education and Science, and worked as a national coordinator for Omani schools affiliated with UNESCO.

International Memberships and Participations

Al Balushi has participated in many national and international councils and committees, most notably her membership in the Executive Council of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), and membership in the Executive Council of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO).

In addition, she held the position of Vice President of the National Team for Sustainable Development Goals and participated in preparing national and international strategies, including: preparing cooperation strategies between the Sultanate of Oman and ISESCO.

Her contributions to education

Al Balushi has contributed to the development of education programmes in the Sultanate, where she participated in developing a framework for twinning projects between Omani schools and Arab and European schools affiliated with UNESCO. She has also contributed to the preparation of many national and international reports on the topics of sustainable development and human rights, and has participated in scientific and educational forums and conferences around the world.

Her Excellency Amna Al Balushi is a prominent figure in the field of education and culture in the Sultanate of Oman, and her new position as Permanent Delegate to UNESCO will enable her to continue her contributions to strengthening the role of the Sultanate of Oman at the international level.
