Salalah: A forum titled “The Reality and Future of Research and Innovation in the GCC Countries” was held in the Governorate of Dhofar today.
The opening of the two-day forum was held under the patronage of HH Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar.
The event is organized by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation, in cooperation with the GCC Secretariat General.
It reviews the most important research and innovation achievements in the research march of GCC countries, in addition to focusing on ways to improve the quality of research and innovation.
The programme of the first day of the forum included two dialogue sessions. The first, titled “Towards a Sustainable Research and Innovation Environment,” dealt with the most prominent research and innovation achievements at the regional and global levels, and the challenges faced by the GCC countries in implementing their strategic plans that support research and innovation.
Meanwhile, the second dialogue session dealt with the international performance indicators, as it discussed two global indicators, namely innovation and competitiveness.
It is worth noting that the forum seeks to present a set of joint recommendations and proposals for the next stage, as well as developing and localizing measurement indicators for national research policies with the aim of improving the classification of countries in international indicators, such as the Global Innovation Index.
The forum also aims to advance the fields of research and innovation, and its culture in the GCC countries, in addition to enhancing the joint work in the field of knowledge transfer and integration of roles between the authorities concerned with research and innovation. – ONA
