GCC Hails Oman’s Role in Securing US–Ansar Allah Ceasefire and Ensuring Maritime Security

GCC Leaders Recognize Oman’s Pivotal Mediation and Leadership in Regional Maritime Dialogue

Manama: The GCC Supreme Council, in the communiqué of its 46th session held today in Manama, Kingdom of Bahrain, commended the Sultanate of Oman’s pivotal announcement on 6 May 2025 of securing a ceasefire between the United States of America (USA) and Ansar Allah. The Council hailed Oman’s instrumental diplomatic efforts to safeguard international maritime navigation and trade, including its successful role in securing the release of detained crew members from the vessel Galaxy.

The Council underscored the vital importance of preserving maritime security and ensuring the safety of strategic sea lanes. It stressed the need for a firm response to any activities that threaten regional or global stability, including attacks on commercial shipping and disruptions to international maritime routes. The communiqué reaffirmed adherence to the principle of freedom of navigation in accordance with international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Furthermore, the GCC Supreme Council praised the Sultanate of Oman for successfully hosting the 8th Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat on 16–17 February 2025. Held under the theme “Voyage to New Horizons of Maritime Partnership,” the conference was recognized as a significant contribution to advancing regional cooperation.

The Council also reviewed the observations presented by its Advisory Board on previously assigned studies. These studies cover key areas of joint Gulf interest, including strategies for confronting natural disasters, the development of unified policies and legislation for artificial intelligence adoption, and addressing obstacles to greater integration of services among GCC member states.
