GESS Summit Oman 2022 begins

Muscat: The Global Educational Supplies and Solutions (GESS) Summit Oman 2022 kicked off here today under the theme “Transforming Education to Build a Brighter and Sustainable Future”. The event is organized in cooperation with the Ministry of Education.

The summit’s opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. Present during the meeting was Majid Said Al Bahri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for Administrative and Financial Affairs.

Hamad Ali Al Sarhani, Advisor to the Minister of Education for Administrative Affairs, delivered a speech in which he said that the summit’s agenda are consistent with Oman Vision 2040, which aims to improve Oman’s ranking on many global indicators, such as the Global Innovation Index, among others.

Al Sarhani affirmed that the Ministry of Education has come a long way in its digital transformation efforts in the educational system. The ministry is pressing ahead with digitizing curricula by making school books more interactive and enhancing them through the use of virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

Seminars on a spectrum of topics were held during the summit, namely on the sustainability of education and entrepreneurship in schools, among other topics. On the sidelines of the summit an exhibition was held to highlight e-initiatives and e-services in the field of education.
