Muscat Nights Provides Platform for Omani Graffiti Artists

Graffiti Art Creates a Youthful Visual Space at Muscat Nights 2026

Muscat: Under the enchanting lights of Muscat Nights 2026, vibrant colors blended to transform walls into artistic murals infused with youthful creativity, giving graffiti art a distinct presence within the social and cultural scene of the event.

Originally emerging as a form of individual expression, graffiti art has evolved into a contemporary visual language that reflects the perspectives of youth and opens a dynamic space for dialogue between the artist and society. Providing graffiti artists with the opportunity to participate in Muscat Nights formed part of the event’s broader objectives to spread artistic and cultural awareness, driven by a sincere desire to express identity and belonging, and to shape aspirations through creative approaches that transcend traditional boundaries.

Graffiti art is distinguished by its rapid interaction with place and event, as well as its ability to reach audiences directly without barriers, making it one of the art forms closest to youth. Its inclusion in open national celebrations supports the hosting of contemporary arts, adds aesthetic value to public spaces, and contributes to enhancing visual taste among visitors.

Graffiti artist Hood Ismail Al Balushi described this art form as “free art that exists outside the formal framework,” explaining that it allows artists to express themselves without restrictions and assert their identity within society. He added that graffiti is a form of visual art used primarily for self-expression.

Regarding his participation in Muscat Nights, Al Balushi said that his artistic ideas are shaped by the nature of the event and its public character. “The artwork becomes expressive of the occasion itself, or it reflects Omani meanings such as heritage and the values we, as Omanis, take pride in,” he noted.

He added that graffiti enables artists to address issues either clearly and openly or through subtle artistic messages that reflect personal or community perspectives, describing graffiti as “a voice for the voiceless.”

Meanwhile, graffiti artist Mu’adh Suhail Al Magaizawi said that participating in Muscat Nights represents a valuable opportunity to redefine graffiti art within Omani society and reinforce its presence in the cultural and artistic landscape, while affirming the creativity and capabilities of Omani youth.

He explained that the experience differed in terms of the number of participating artists, the organization of the space, the scale of the murals, and the strong interaction with visitors. While public engagement—particularly from children—can sometimes interrupt the flow of artistic ideas during painting, he emphasized that “every experience is beautiful in itself and contributes to generating new creative ideas due to the diversity of spaces.”

For his part, graffiti artist Yousef Hilal Al Ghamlasi affirmed that Muscat Nights played a significant role in highlighting existing and investable Omani talents, providing artists with a public platform that helps transform creative energies into tangible artistic value within the event.

He noted that integrating graffiti art with cultural activities at Muscat Nights introduced local audiences and international visitors to skilled Omani artists, while presenting Omani identity in a contemporary visual style. This, he said, helped position visual art as a tourist attraction that extends beyond traditional gallery spaces.

Al Ghamlasi added that collaborative work among artists enhanced the overall artistic concept, strengthened the visual impact of the murals, and fostered a spirit of cooperation, resulting in a cohesive and aesthetically rich artistic experience.
