Grape festival kicks off tomorrow in North A’Sharqiyah

Al Mudhaibi: The Grape Festival in the Governorate of North A’Sharqiyah 2023 will start tomorrow, organized by the Office of the Governor of North A’Sharqiyah, in cooperation with the Ministry of Agricultural Wealth, Fisheries and Water Resources and a number of institutions in the public and private sectors in the town of Al-Rawdah in the Procuratorate of Samad Al-Shan in the Wilayat of Al-Mudhaibi, under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Saeed bin Mohamed Al-Saqri, Minister of Economy, and it will last for two days.

The festival comes to support the governorates with a comparative advantage in the cultivation and production of grapes, and to support entrepreneurs to make investment projects in the production of grapes. Contribute to the support and development of grape cultivation, consolidate the idea of ​​contract farming through agricultural associations, and create job opportunities for job seekers.

On its first day, the festival includes the signing of a number of agreements supporting grape growers with some related sectors, and the opening of the main exhibition with the participation of more than 45 grape growers from various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, displaying more than 35 types of grape varieties, in addition to the presence of Arkans for a number of participating sectors to display supplies and special devices and help in the process of preparing grape-growing trellises and harvesting mechanisms, and displaying products derived from it, such as food and some juices.

On the second day of the festival, a scientific symposium entitled “Investing the Grape Crop in the Sultanate of Oman” will be held, which includes the presentation of four scientific working papers with the participation of a number of specialists and academics. , mobile visitor contest, and other direct competitions.

It is worth noting that the grape crop is one of the most cultivated crops globally, as its production is estimated at about “74” million tons in 2021, and at the local level the cultivation of the crop is concentrated in some governorates, and the 2022 statistics indicate that the total area cultivated in those governorates is estimated at about “200” acres. With an estimated productivity of “1000” tons, while the economic return of the grape crop in the Sultanate of Oman is estimated at about one and a half million Omani riyals. About “180” thousand Omani riyals.
