Duqm: Eng. His Excellency said in a statement to the Oman News Agency that the joint Duqm crude oil refinery between the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the OQ Group, and the State of Kuwait, represented by the Kuwait Petroleum International Company, is a translation of a long-term partnership between the two brotherly countries, and represents a major shift in the path of their cooperation on the economic and strategic levels.
His Excellency indicated that the refinery will refine and process oil and transform it into high-quality products, using the latest technologies in this field, taking into account safety, health and the environment, indicating that the percentage of reduction in greenhouse gas emissions since the start of the refinery’s operations has reached 41 percent.
His Excellency added that the refinery will operate with a refining capacity of up to 230,000 barrels per day, and its most prominent products will be diesel, liquefied petroleum gas, naphtha, jet fuel, petroleum coal and sulfur, all of which are products in high demand in the global market.
His Excellency said that the opening of this project confirms the continued interest in investing in the Sultanate of Oman and working to attract qualitative investment, which contributes to strengthening economic diversification policies and diversifying sources of income.
His Excellency pointed out that the refinery contributes to the development of many local small and medium enterprises by awarding contracts for the supply of goods and services to them, as the percentage of spending on local added value reaches more than 26 percent of the total volume of spending, in addition to the volume of investments in social projects that It reached 5.4 million US dollars, in addition to providing a number of direct and indirect job opportunities, and training opportunities coupled with employment, which reflects positively on the labor market, employment, and national capacity building.
His Excellency stressed the importance of the role of the Special Economic Zone in Duqm, which is pivotal and enabling for multiple downstream industries, heavy industries, petrochemicals, and logistics, which also works to add value to the region, which has become a complete investment infrastructure.
