Heavy Rains, Flash flood warning issued for parts of Oman


Muscat: Oman on Monday issued Weather alert (1) Heavy Rainfall across Oman including Muscat starting from today midnight until Tuesday afternoon.

In a statement CAA said: Due to the expected heavy thundershowers associated with downdraft, fresh winds and hail during today midnight until Tuesday afternoon over the Governorates of Musandam, AL Buraimi, North AL Batinah, South AL Batinah and AL Dhahira gradually extend toward Al Dakhylia and Muscat Governorates with precipitation ranging from 20 mm to 60 mm may assisted with flash floods.

The Civil Aviation Authority advices all to take precautions during thundershower rain, and not to cross Wadis (Flash Flood) and avoid low laying areas and not to sail during alert period.


Heavy thundershowers with hail are expected ranging (20 – 60 mm) may cause flash floods (Wadis).

Strong downdraft active winds with speed ranging 15 – 35 knots (28 – 64 km/h).

Sea state may rise along Musandam governorate and Oman Sea coasts (2 – 3.5 meters).

Reduction in horizontal visibility during thundershowers.

Meanwhile Oman Meteorology said: The latest aerial images show the flow of clouds of varying height over parts of the governorates of Musandam, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, and North Al Batinah, and the chances of scattered rain and the formation of low clouds over parts of the coastal areas of the Arabian Sea.
