Muscat: Several governorates in the Sultanate of Oman are experiencing heavy thunderstorms, including Al Buraimi, A’Dhahirah, Musandam, North Al Batinah, South Al Batinah, A’Dakhiliyah and North A’Sharqiyah.

Rain-bearing thunderclouds are expected to continue forming over the coming hours, extending to Muscat and South A’Sharqiyah.

Hilal Salim Al Hajri, Head of the Forecasting and Early Warning System Department at the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), stated that weather conditions are expected to see relative calm on Thursday, although chances of thunderstorms remain over Al Buraimi, A’Dhahirah and North Al Batinah.

He noted that monitoring stations recorded varying rainfall levels, with the highest amounts reaching 57 mm at Khasab Port in Musandam and 44 mm at Abu Al Tubool station in Al Wusta.

Al Hajri warned that rainfall may intensify at times, accompanied by hail, leading to flowing wadis, some of which may be hazardous. He added that downdraft winds ranging between 20 and 50 knots and reduced horizontal visibility, which may drop to near zero during heavy rainfall, are also expected.

He urged the public to exercise caution, avoid crossing wadis, stay away from low-lying areas and refrain from sea activities during this period.
