HH Sayyid Theyazin Reviews Research and Innovation Development Plans

Muscat: HH Sayyid Theyazin bin Haitham Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Research and Innovation Authority, presided over the first meeting of the Authority’s Board of Directors for 2026, in the presence of the members of the Board.

The meeting aligns with the Board’s mandate to outline the general strategic directions of the Authority, monitor its performance, and enhance its contribution to the development of the research and innovation ecosystem. This reflects the integration between economic priorities, and research and innovation as two vital enablers for enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy and building a knowledge-based economy, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

At the outset of the meeting, His Highness commended the efforts made to support the advancement of research and strengthen the innovation ecosystem, emphasizing the Authority’s pivotal role in transforming knowledge and research into added value, enabling innovation to contribute to the development of economic sectors, and building a knowledge-driven economy founded on research and creativity.

The Board discussed a number of executive tracks related to the Authority’s plans and programs for the upcoming phase. It also reviewed the Authority’s 2025 annual report, including its indicators, achievements, and initiatives that have contributed to developing the research and innovation environment in the Sultanate of Oman.

The Board was also briefed on the initiative to launch the competition for the Sultan Haitham Research Chair at higher education institutions. This initiative serves as an important mechanism for stimulating scientific output and strengthening research capabilities.

In addition, the Board received an update on the Sultanate of Oman’s successful bid to host the annual meeting of the Global Research Council (GRC) in 2028. Hosting this prominent international forum will enhance Oman’s presence in global scientific circles and further solidify its position within the international research and innovation ecosystem.
