Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik today issued Royal Decree No. (58/2024) on the promulgation of the Media Law, after presenting the same before the Council of Oman.

Article (1) states that the provisions of the Media Law attached to this decree, shall be enforced.

Article (2) states that the Minister of Information shall issue the regulation of the attached law, as well as necessary decisions to implement its provisions. Till such time, the existing regulations and decisions shall continue to be implemented without prejudice to the provisions of the attached law.

Article (3) cancels Royal Decree No. 49/84 on the Publications and Publishing Law, Royal Decree No. 65/97 on the Law on the Censorship of Artistic Works and Royal Decree No. 95/2004 on the Law of Private Radio and Television Establishments. It also cancels all that contradicts with the law attached to this decree or contravenes its provisions.

Article (4) says that this decree shall be published in the Official Gazette and enforced from the day following its date of publishing.
