Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham issues two royal decrees, amending some laws and Royal Decrees
The texts of which are as follows
Royal Decree No. 8/2021 amending some laws and Royal Decrees
Article 1: The word “disabled” and the word “handicapped” and “people with special needs” and other terms intended for persons with disabilities wherever mentioned in the laws and Royal Decrees are replaced with “people with disabilities.”
Article 2: cancels all that contradicts this decree or contravenes its provisions.
Article 3: This decree shall be published in the official gazette and enforced from the date of its issuance.
Royal Decree No. 9/2021
We, Haitham bin Tariq, Sultan of Oman, and after reviewing the Basic Law of the state and based on what the public interest requires, we have drawn up the following:
Article 1: The name of the “Oman Academic Accreditation Authority” shall be amended to the Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education
Article 2: The competencies of the Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education shall be determined in accordance with Annex No. 1 attached.
Article 3: The organizational structure of the Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education shall be approved in accordance with Appendix No. 2 attached
Article 4: The Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education reports to the Council of Ministers
Article 5: The headquarters of the Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education shall be in the Governorate of Muscat, and it is permissible by decision of the Board of Directors to establish branches for it in other governorates
Article 6: The Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education shall have a chief executive of the special grade who shall be appointed by a Royal Decree
Article 7: Public and private schools, public and private higher education institutions and other relevant bodies are bound by the regulations, standards and procedures for academic accreditation and ensuring the quality of education set by the authority. They are also obligated to provide the authority with the data and statistics it deems necessary to exercise its competencies.
Article 8: All allocations, assets, rights, obligations, and assets of the General Directorate for School Evaluation in the Ministry of Education devolve to the Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education
Article 9: The employees of the General Directorate for School Assessment at the Ministry of Education shall be transferred to the Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance with the same financial grades, in accordance with the coordination that takes place between the Authority’s CEO and the Minister of Education
Article 10: The term Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation, wherever it appears in the laws and Royal decrees, shall be replaced by the expression Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education
Article 11: The employment and financial regulations and decisions in force in the Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education shall continue to be enforced until the unified civil service law is issued.
Article 12: The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Omani Authority for Academic Accreditation and Quality Assurance of Education shall issue the regulations and decisions necessary to implement the provisions of this decree and until they are issued, the work continues with the existing regulations and decisions in a manner that does not contradict the provisions of this decree
Article 13: The system of the Omani Commission for Academic Accreditation attached to the Royal Decree No. 54/2010 referred to shall be repealed, which cancels all that contradicts this decree and the attached annexes or contradicts their provisions.
Article 3: This decree shall be published in the official gazette and enforced from the date of its issuance
