Muscat:  The Sultanate of Oman will host tomorrow the Air Traffic Management Coordination Meeting and the Crisis Management Workshop for the Middle East region, organized by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), with the participation of the ICAO Regional Office for the Middle East and Asia Pacific.

The coordination meeting, scheduled to be held from February 1 to 3, will discuss global developments in air traffic management, challenges affecting air traffic flows within the Middle East region and at inter-regional contact points, and ways to enhance airspace management, strengthen regional coordination, and update joint agreements among countries on air traffic services.

The Crisis Management Workshop, which will take place from February 4 to 5, 2026, will focus on reviewing ICAO emergency planning requirements, the mechanisms of the Emergency Coordination Team, and the exchange of experiences between ICAO regions. The workshop will place particular emphasis on strengthening cross-border coordination and developing regional emergency response arrangements.

The organization of these events underscores the Sultanate of Oman’s position as an active regional hub in the civil aviation sector and reflects its role in supporting ICAO initiatives, enhancing regional and international cooperation, and raising levels of safety and operational efficiency across the region’s airspace.

The meeting and workshop will bring together representatives from 19 countries, three international organizations, and three airlines, with a total of 90 participants, including experts, specialists, and airspace users.

In a statement to the Oman News Agency, Engineer Saleh bin Abdullah Al Harthi, Director General of Air Navigation at the Civil Aviation Authority, said that hosting these events reflects the Sultanate of Oman’s growing stature as a regional and international center for technical cooperation in civil aviation.

He explained that the meeting and workshop aim to enhance coordination and integration among countries, develop joint cooperation mechanisms, and discuss best practices and operational plans to ensure the continuity of air navigation services and strengthen preparedness for emergency situations.

He added that these events provide an important platform for exchanging technical expertise and specialized knowledge, reviewing the latest international initiatives and experiences in emergency planning and air traffic management, and contributing to the enhancement of safety, efficiency, and smooth air traffic flow, thereby reinforcing the Sultanate of Oman’s role as an active partner in advancing regional and international civil aviation systems.
