In pictures: Expats arrested over unhealthy food preparation in Oman

The Municipality Department in Sur managed to seize expatriate workers who converted a number of houses into a kitchen, and also seized one of the houses that was converted into a slaughterhouse without obtaining a permit from the municipality and without observing health requirements.

After monitoring and follow-up, information was obtained from some passers-by between the houses, and then a search permit was obtained from the Public Prosecution, and the houses were raided with the support of the Sur police, where the workers were caught in flagrante delicto while they were cooking Ramadan food and distributing it to restaurants and cafes in the state.

A slaughterhouse was also seized in one of the houses that slaughters and skins carcasses and cuts meat in an unhealthy environment without a municipal permit, which is in violation of the regulations and laws regulating municipal work.

160 kilograms of meat were confiscated and the slaughter site was closed by the municipality’s specialists. The inspectors also destroyed a number of cooking preparations, including bags of flour, cooking oil, bags of onions and some fast food, in addition to destroying a number of cooking utensils.

As for the slaughterhouse, all the slaughterhouse tools, including frozen meat, were destroyed, in the interest of the health of the citizen and the resident.

As a continous efforts of the two specialists, a poultry slaughterhouse in the state was closed for non-compliance with the list of health requirements.

On the other hand, the Municipality Department in Jaalan Bani Bu Ali carried out intensive inspection campaigns during the month of March on food facilities, including meat, poultry, fish, fruit and vegetable stores, and shopping centers, with the aim of ensuring food safety for the consumer and maintaining preventive health for high-risk and medium-risk facilities.

About (58) shops were visited and (369) kilograms of meat and its derivatives were destroyed. (27) warnings and 21 health violations were issued, and (8) food establishments were closed.

These visits have contributed to familiarizing the target segment with various health aspects and distributing awareness leaflets to introduce all applicable health requirements.

The inspection campaign also included monitoring food establishments and restaurants in their various activities in terms of their compliance with all health requirements, according to a practical program approved by the inspection team to ensure the health and safety of foodstuffs by means of apparent examination, in addition to matching the data card of foodstuffs and taking all measures to prevent contamination in places of preparation. and preparing foods.
