In pictures: Green Energy International Conference 2023 begins in Salalah

Salalah: The International Conference on Green Energy 2023 kicked off at the Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Recreation today. A number of academicians from the Sultanate of Oman and abroad are taking part in the two-day conference.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Marwan Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar, in the presence of Dr. Said Hamad Al-Rubi’ee, Chairman of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, government officials and private sector representatives.

The conference seeks to encourage academics and industrialists to promote research focusing on sustainable energy stocks, protecting the environment and preserving natural resources. It also discusses means of supporting research to develop renewable energy sources having positive effects on economic growth, in addition to exchanging local and international experiences in the field of sustainable energy.

The conference comes in line with Oman’s plans for achieving balance between sustainable development and limiting climate change impacts by utilizing clean technologies and diversifying energy sources.

The first day of the event includes a discussion session titled “Green Economy, Empowerment and Sustainability”, with the following as speakers: Dr. Ahmed Abdullah Al Sayaari, Director General of Environment in Dhofar Governorate, Faiza Mohammed Al Harthi, Head of the Energy Sector, Environment and Natural Resources Priority at Oman Vision 2040 Implementation Follow-up Unit, and Eng. Al Mokhtar Salih Al Sifi, Director of New Technologies and Renewable Energy at Rural Areas Electricity Company “Tanweer Oman”.

The speakers presented two themes. The first was titled “Transforming waste into energy and its resources in the context of the circular economy Oman”. It was introduced by Dr. Khalifa Saif Al Jabri, Lecturer of Civil Engineering at Sultan Qaboos University.

The second, titled “Different Low-Carbon Solutions in the Journey from Gray Hydrogen to Green Hydrogen” was presented by Helen Hull, Strategic Director Regional of Johnson Matthey company in the Middle East, Africa and India.

The conference sessions cover green economy’s future in Oman. The academicians exchange views through debate on 33 research papers that are presented at the conference. The papers deal with green hydrogen energy, hydrogen fuel stocks, technologies on building green energy facilities, the establishment of a sustainable environment and green nanotechnology. – ONA
