Environment Authority, IAEA Experts Discuss Modern Approaches to Radioactive Waste Management

Muscat: The Environment Authority is organizing a two-day symposium on the integrated management of radioactive waste in Muscat, in cooperation with Oman Environmental Services Holding Company.

The symposium brings together experts from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and focuses on highlighting modern and safe methods for managing radioactive waste generated from medical and industrial applications, in addition to radioactive waste of natural origin.

The event aims to enhance national capacities in the safe handling, treatment, storage, and disposal of radioactive waste, in line with international standards and best practices, while supporting environmental protection and public health.

The symposium is attended by representatives from government entities, academic institutions, research centers, private sector companies, and civil society organizations, reflecting the importance of cross-sectoral cooperation in addressing environmental and technical challenges related to radioactive waste management.

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of Dr. Ahmed bin Salim Al Mandhari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health for Planning and Health Regulation.
