Muscat: An investment opportunity has been floated for private sector investors to set up treated water projects in Al Nahda area in the Wilayat of Al-Amerat, Muscat Governorate, within a total area of about 500 fedans (2.1 million square metres).

The projects stem from an initiative espoused by the National Employment Programme (NEP) in cooperation with a number of government departments and private sector establishments.

The NEP initiative seeks to consolidate partnership with the private sector and augment the volume of basic agricultural commodities. It also promotes self-sufficiency and supports the food security system.

The idea of the project includes exploiting agricultural land to use the tertiary treated water produced from the wastewater treatment plant in Al-Amerat State, to develop and encourage agricultural activities and sustainable agriculture, exploit treated water, enhance innovation and technology in the agricultural sector, and create job opportunities.

During this stage, the private institutions that will participate in this investment opportunity will be presented with a vision of the ideal model for designing, managing, implementing, operating and marketing the project for exploiting treated water in agricultural production and agricultural tourism, taking into account the social, tourism, environmental, educational and economic aspects and developing wildlife on the site.
