Sohar: The Sohar Court of First Instance issued a judicial ruling against two defendants accused of a misdemeanor of non-compliance with refunding the amount paid by the consumer during the warranty period. They were sentenced to imprisonment and a fine.

The details of the ruling refer to a consumer’s contract with a manpower recruitment agency in exchange for a sum of money of RO (850) Omani riyals, but the worker ran away from the house during the warranty period and after searching for her, the consumer was able to find her, and immediately returned her to the office, but he did not receive the amount that He paid it in advance, and accordingly he went to the General Directorate of Consumer Protection in Sohar to submit his complaint, demanding the amount he had paid.

In turn, the Directorate took inference procedures and then referred the case to the Public Prosecution, which decided to refer it to the competent court. For committing a misdemeanor of non-compliance with providing the service to the consumer in a proper manner and in accordance with its nature, and it sentenced them to imprisonment for five months and a fine estimated at RO (1,000) Omani riyals with an order to stop the penalty according to the reasons for the ruling, and for a civil one, obligating the first accused to pay the civil right claimant the amount of RO (1050) ) Omani Rial with expenses.

The Consumer Protection Authority calls on all suppliers to observe the terms and conditions that frame the requirements for providing services, and notes that breaching these conditions is an explicit violation of the Consumer Protection Law.
