Joint Tourism Initiatives between Oman and Saudi Arabia

Muscat:  Salim Mohammed Al Mahrouqi, Minister of Heritage and Tourism, today received Ahmed Aqeel Al Khateeb, Minister of Tourism in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

During the meeting, it was agreed to launch joint tourism initiatives as a first stage covering the areas of promotion, marketing, tourism activation, tourism regulations, cooperation in the field of air connections and seasonal flights.

The two sides also agreed on implementing joint tourism programmes in the field of camping and adventure tourism, a calendar of joint tourism events and a programme to support small and medium enterprises in the tourism sector.

Al Mahrouqi said that Oman and Saudi Arabia are two important tourist destinations in the region due to their natural and cultural diversity. He stressed the need to consolidate integration and upgrade the capabilities of the two countries so that they could occupy a prominent place on the map of global tourism.

For his part, Al Khateeb underscored the significance of optimizing tourism relations between the two countries. He said that a framework was drawn out during the meeting to implement the MoU inked by the two countries on the sidelines of theWorld Travel and Tourism Council Global Summit, held in Riyadh. -ONA
