Kanakshi Khimji passes away at 85

Muscat: Kanakshi Gokaldas Khimji, chairman of the Khimji Group of Companies, passed away on Thursday

Kanakshi Gokaldas khimji was born in 1936 in Muscat and completed his education in Mumbai. He led the business of Kimji Ramdas for nearly five decades and was granted Omani citizenship.

Kanakshi Gokaldas khimji is also the first person in the Gulf region to be honored with the Indian Pravasi Bhartiya Samman Award, in recognition of his strong and passionate commitment to social activities in Oman and India.

The contribution made by Kanaksi Khimji in the field of education for the children of Indian diaspora in Oman will be remembered for ages.

Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman Munu Mahawar said in its tweets : Deeply saddened to learn about passing away of Sheikh Kanaksi Bhai. An institution builder and a father figure to Indian community; he also made huge contributions to bilateral partnership. I will always cherish memories of my warm interactions with him. Heartfelt condolences.
