Muscat: Dhofar Khareef season 2024 to begin tomorrow, Friday, which will affect the coastal wilayats of Dhofar Governorate, the Wilayat of Dhalkut in the west to the Wilayat of Mirbat in the east.
The monsoon winds and clouds coming from the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean will continue until September 21.
The autumn season is characterised by its cloudy and rainy weather and moderate temperatures, which drop further in the high mountainous areas that are shrouded in fog accompanied by light rain, which makes Dhofar Governorate a destination for visitors and tourists from inside and outside the Sultanate of Oman.
The mountainous areas and plains are covered in green blanket as a result of continuing light rain and intermittent drizzle on the plains and mountains.
The flow of water increases in the springs affected by the season and spread throughout the governorate, which are considered beautiful tourist attractions, the most prominent of which are the springs of “Razat, Hamran, Gerziz, Sahelnot, and Tobruk,” in addition to the springs whose waterfalls fall when the amount of rain increases during the season, especially in the month of August, the most famous of which are the waterfalls of Darbat, Athum, Kor, and Jujib. In addition to the Al-Houta Waterfall in the state of Rakhyut.
Dhofar Governorate is famous for its many natural tourist attractions due to the diversity of its terrain and its marine, agricultural, mountainous and desert environments, in addition to the archaeological and historical sites included in the World Heritage List, most notably Al Baleed and Samharam Archaeological Parks, the Land of Frankincense Museum, and the historical forts in the wilayats of Rakhyut, Taqah, Mirbat and Sadah.
Shopping centers and shops in the city of Salalah witness active commercial activity during this season, with tourists and visitors flocking to traditional products and industries, especially shops selling frankincense, incense, silver and pottery products, Omani sweets, and restaurants serving traditional Omani food.
The Salalah Plain is also characterised by various agricultural products of a tropical nature, the most famous of which are coconuts, bananas, papaya, and sugarcane, in addition to beautiful creeks, natural reserves, and rich animal and marine wealth. In light of this exceptional climate, the relevant government and private agencies prepare annually to receive tourist groups by providing facilities and services that meet the needs of tourists and the requirements of those coming to the governorate. I
t is worth noting that the number of visitors to the Dhofar Governorate in the last fall season of 2023 recorded an increase of 18.4 percent to reach about 962,000 visitors and tourists, while the total spending of visitors during the season reached OMR 103 million, according to the National Center for Statistics and Information.
