Launch of Joint International Congress of Ophthalmology and Research in Muscat

Muscat:  Tasks of a joint international conference on ophthalmology and related surgery and research began today at Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre in Muscat Governorate.

The event, “MEACO-MIOC 2023” stands jointly for the 17th International Congress of the Middle East Africa Council of Ophthalmology (MEACO) and the 19th Muscat International Ophthalmology Conference (MIOC 2023).

The opening ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Shihab bin Tarik Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for Defence Affairs.

The three-day conference is organized by the Ophthalmology Centre at the Medical City of Military and Security Services, in cooperation with the Oman Ophthalmic Society, the Ministry of Health and the Middle East and Africa Ophthalmology Council.

The opening of the conference included the inauguration of the logo of the International Association for Keratoconus, the distribution of the Ibn Amira Awards and the Ibn Al Dhahabi Gold Medal (Oman), in addition to the opening of an exhibition of medical products and modern technologies used in diagnosing and treating various eye diseases.

The programme of the conference includes a number of lectures, visual presentations, scholarly papers and workshops, in addition to training courses at the surgical simulation laboratory and a live broadcast of surgical operations conducted by a group of experts and specialists.

Other activities of the conference include a review of educational experiences in treating eye diseases using a hyperbaric-oxygen chamber and Visumax 800 advanced device. A presentation on making artificial eyes will also be viewed.

The conference seeks to update the participants about the progress made in the field of ophthalmology, exchange expertise and experiences with regional and international participants and to introduce new surgical techniques used in diagnosing and treating eye diseases, as well as methods of conducting relevant research.
