The Court of First Instance in Sohar recently issued a judicial ruling against a manpower recruitment office, for violating the Consumer Protection Law promulgated by Royal Decree No. (66/2014), which issued a conviction and a fine.
The details of the case refer to a consumer contracting with an office to recruit a domestic worker for an amount of (1600) Omani riyals and an advance payment of an amount of (500) Omani riyals, while the office failed to bring the domestic worker within the agreed period, and despite the consumer’s review of the office several times demanding a return of the amount However, the owner of the office did not return the amount paid and documented in the contract concluded between them, despite giving him a deadline more than once, and as a result, he submitted his complaint to the Directorate, which took evidentiary measures, and then referred the case to the Public Prosecution, which referred it to the court, which convicted the defendants of the misdemeanor of non-compliance with providing service to the consumer. In the proper manner and in accordance with their nature, it decided to fine each of them (100) Omani riyals and to oblige him to pay the expenses.
