MCSY launches Youth Ambassadors Program

Muscat: The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth, represented by the Directorate General of Youth, today launched the Youth Ambassadors Programme in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

The programme will continue until September 19 at the Sultan Qaboos Higher Centre for Culture and Science in Muscat Governorate. The ceremony was sponsored by His Excellency Sheikh Khalifa bin Ali Al Harthy, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs.

The programme aims to build young national capacities capable of participating effectively in regional and international forums such as the United Nations organisations in all their branches, and membership in official delegations participating in events organised by external parties and international and regional organisations.

Hilal bin Saif Al Siyabi, Director General of the General Directorate of Youth, said in a speech by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth: The Ministry launched the Youth Ambassadors Program to qualify a number of young national leaders to participate in regional and international forums, and to enrich the discussions and questions that occur in forums in various fields and issues.

He added that the aim of the programme is to provide young people with the basic knowledge necessary for external representation and to frame the process of nominating young people for external participation, as well as to enhance the presence of young people in regional and international forums, and to introduce them to international and regional organisations, in addition to providing young people with the knowledge and expertise that enables them to contribute to smart responses to the problems they face through the Model United Nations.

Al-Siyabi pointed out that the program will be attended by 100 young men and women from 14 Gulf and Arab countries, 21 of which will be from Gulf and Arab countries and 79 Omanis, both men and women. Training workshops will be held during it in cooperation with the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR).

He explained that the program aims to discover talents in leadership and diplomacy, and a training simulation session will be organized for regional and international meetings such as the United Nations Model for Training and Research (UNITAR), in which the most important global and regional issues facing youth in various countries of the world and the mechanism for their solutions will be presented. Participants will assume the roles of diplomats and official spokesmen for various countries and organizations, and discussions and negotiations will be held on the most important issues facing youth.
