Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth organizes the first forum for amateur sports

Muscat: The first amateur sports forum organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth kicked off today at the main hall of the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex to focus on amateur sports in the Sultanate of Oman and enhance their participation locally and internationally.

The opening of the forum was sponsored by His Excellency Basil bin Ahmed Al Rawas, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth. The forum will witness the participation of 9 different sports, including archery (Olympic and traditional), spectacraw, pentathlon (pentaball), purebred Arabian Saluki racing, netball, pickleball, Olympic boxing, wrestling, and falconry.

Mohammed bin Saeed Al Neyadi, Head of the Amateur Sports Department and supervisor of the forum, said: “The forum brings together a group of new sports in the Sultanate of Oman, as nine new sports that do not have their own sports committees or federations are participating in it.

He explained that the ministry is studying the feasibility of these sports and their prevalence, and if they are successful, special sports committees may be established for them, and then the possibility of transforming these sports into independent federations in the future will be evaluated.
