Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman hosted a two-day meeting that concluded here today with the issuance of “Muscat Declaration” on endorsing the Arab Strategy for the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Muscat Declaration stressed the need to espouse a strategy for the preservation of intangible cultural heritage. It serves as a guiding document and it requires ALESCO (the Arab League Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) and Arab countries to accord significance to the strategy, support it and benefit from its diverse elements.
The declaration gains impetus in the backdrop of challenges posed to intangible cultural heritage, notably from natural disasters, crises and conflicts. It calls upon Arab countries to press ahead with joint action in terms of inventorying, documentation and scholarly research taking advantage of modern technologies. – ONA
