Salalah: The documentary exhibition “Memory of a Nation in the Land of Frankincense” opened today in the Wilayat of Salalah, which is organized by the National Documents and Archives Authority as part of the activities of this year’s Khareef Dhofar season, which lasts until the 13th of August.
The exhibition, which is held in the commercial complex “Salalah Gardens Mall”, includes several pillars, most notably: the corner of the history of Oman, the corner of Dhofar Governorate in memory of history, along with the corner of manuscripts, the corner of Dhofar Governorate in the press, and another on the child, in addition to the corner related to private documents.
The exhibition also contains more than 175 documents and manuscripts, in addition to more than 1149 documents in digital content, magazines and paper clippings, in addition to various documents, manuscripts, pictures and maps that show the depth of Omani relations with the world, and the most important historical stations of the Sultanate of Oman by displaying a group of Agreements and treaties between the Sultans of Oman and the world.
The exhibition sheds light in particular on historical features of the Dhofar Governorate, through correspondence, photos, articles and press clippings about the governorate and its position since ancient times and its pivotal role in the frankincense trade, in addition to a children’s corner with the aim of providing young people with knowledge and awareness of the importance of documents and strengthening their national identity.
It is worth noting that the National Documents and Archives Authority aims, through holding documentary exhibitions, to develop communication and interdependence with the local community, to introduce Omani civilization and highlight its cultural, heritage and historical aspects, as well as to spread cultural awareness in the field of documents and archives for citizens, residents and visitors.
