Oman’s MHT opens Omani Geological Heritage Exhibition Al Buraimi

Muscat: The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism (MHT) opened the Omani Geological Heritage Exhibition “Sustainability and Employment Opportunities” in its third edition, at Al-Khandaq Fort in Al-Buraimi Governorate, under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al-Kalbani, Wali of Al-Buraimi.

This is in cooperation with Petroleum Development Oman and the Oman Geological Society and in coordination with the Buraimi Governor’s Office. The exhibition will continue until May 30, 2024.

The exhibition includes six corners: Among them is the story of the geological heritage and the diversity of the geology of the Sultanate of Oman and its geological history, in addition to the composition of the land of the Sultanate of Oman in geological history, the importance of preserving the geological heritage and ensuring its sustainability, in addition to job opportunities in geotourism, and another section that talks about the geology of the Buraimi Governorate, highlighting what it enjoys. The province is rich in geological diversity and richness.

The exhibition also includes a number of distinctive pieces of geological heritage that the Sultanate of Oman abounds with, the oldest of which is a fossil that is about 800 million years old, three-dimensional scientific models of the extinct primitive elephant whose fossilized teeth were found in the “Eidam” area in the Dhofar Governorate, and a dinosaur model. The extinct extinct animal, whose fossilized bones were found in the Al Khoud area in the Wilayat of Seeb, and other unique geological fossils.​
