Minister of Health reviews the role of health care in Oman Vision 2040

Muscat: H.E Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, today reviewed via video call the role of health care in “Oman Vision 2040” during his hosting of the first national meetings of the Omani Council for Medical Specializations in the field of health and medical education, with the participation of more than 550 specialists. From various health institutions and those interested in the health sector.

During the meeting, Dr. Hilal bin Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health, touched on the theoretical framework of the health system in terms of social determinants of health, societal goals and economic development, which include securing resources, providing services, governance and financing, to achieve the goals of efficiency, justice, health improvement and financial protection.

His Excellency referred to the basic building blocks of the health system, which are: governance, leadership, human resources, health service delivery, health information system, medicines, vaccines, medical technologies, and health system financing.

During his speech, His Excellency focused on the priority of health in “Oman Vision 2040” within the axis of people and society and the strategic direction of a pioneering health system with international standards.

His Excellency stated that the priority seeks to achieve five goals, which are: a society that enjoys sustainable health in which the culture of (health is everyone’s responsibility) is rooted and is protected from dangers and threats to health, and a health system characterized by decentralization, quality, transparency, justice and accountability, diverse and sustainable sources of funding for the health system, and qualified national cadres and capabilities. It is a pioneer in scientific research and health innovation, technical medical systems and services, and high-quality preventive and curative health care at all levels.

His Excellency also touched on comprehensive health coverage programs and related projects through establishing health centers, raising the efficiency of health centers into hospitals, establishing new hospitals, expanding hospitals, and establishing a central laboratory and dialysis units.

His Excellency Dr. Minister of Health concluded the meeting by providing a detailed explanation of the National Strategy for Digital Health and the desired transformation of the health system, to provide a more sustainable health care model, a health information system from which decisions are made, the sustainability of the availability of the necessary medical and pharmaceutical products, the localization of industries, and flexible decentralized leadership.

The meetings organized by the Oman Medical Specialization Council aim to expand the scope of benefiting from medical education in the Council and achieve excellence in providing health care services and medical training in the Sultanate of Oman. The meetings – which come within the project to support innovation in medical education and health care – target doctors, health workers and those interested, and host speakers and experts in the field of health and medical education at the local and international levels, to share developments in health care and medical training at the national level.

It is noteworthy that the national meetings of the Omani Council for Medical Specialties in the field of health and medical education will be organized periodically, during which various topics will be presented, including medical education, the use of artificial intelligence technologies, success stories in the health sector and innovation, in addition to other topics such as quality assurance and governance in the health sector and medical research, in an effort to spread a culture of Innovation in medical education and healthcare.
