Ministry of Labour Issues Statement on 2026 Public Holidays

Muscat: The Ministry of Labour has issued a statement announcing the dates of national and religious holidays for the year 2026, in implementation of the government’s policy aimed at enhancing institutional and administrative planning efficiency.

The statement noted that the Council of Ministers has approved the advance announcement of national and religious holiday dates at the beginning of each Gregorian year. An exception applies to the Eid Al-Fitr and Eid Al-Adha holidays, which will be announced in accordance with the declarations issued by the Main Committee for Determining the Beginnings of Hijri Months, due to their reliance on moon sighting.

The Ministry explained that this approach is expected to yield positive outcomes, foremost among them enabling government entities and private-sector establishments to effectively organize and regulate their daily, quarterly and annual work plans and programmes. It also contributes to avoiding any overlap between official holidays and local or international events organized by public or private institutions.

Public Holidays for 2026

First: National Occasions

  • Accession of His Majesty the Sultan to the Reins of Power: Thursday, 15 January 2026

  • National Day: Wednesday and Thursday, 25–26 November 2026

Second: Religious Occasions

  • Al-Isra’ wal Mi’raj: Sunday, 18 January 2026

  • Hijri New Year: Thursday, 18 June 2026

  • The Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday (PBUH): Thursday, 27 August 2026

The Ministry stressed the obligation of government entities and private-sector establishments whose nature of work requires continuity to organize work schedules during official holidays and to provide compensation in accordance with the applicable laws and regulations.
