RO 150 Million Sugar Refinery Supports Oman Vision 2040

Sohar Port Witnesses Opening of Major Sugar Refinery

Sohar: Sohar Port and Freezone will tomorrow, Monday 15 December 2025, witness the inauguration of a modern sugar refinery, a strategic project expected to give fresh momentum to investments in the area and enhance the food security sector in the Sultanate of Oman.

The project will contribute to strengthening supply chain resilience and supporting economic diversification, in line with the objectives of Oman Vision 2040.

Located in the vicinity of Sohar Port, the refinery represents an investment exceeding RO 150 million. The plant has successfully completed the trial operation phase and achieved Category 2 classification in accordance with European standards, paving the way for the start of commercial operations by January 2026.

The refinery employs an advanced European refining system that enhances production efficiency and ensures high operational quality. It has an annual production capacity of one million tonnes, supported by a comprehensive storage infrastructure capable of accommodating 500,000 tonnes of raw sugar and 70,000 tonnes of refined sugar.

The project’s advanced capabilities reinforce the Sultanate of Oman’s position as a regional hub for sugar processing, distribution and re-export, further strengthening the role of Sohar Port and Freezone as a key industrial and logistics centre.
