Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology Concludes Video Game Development Camp

Muscat:  The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology today concluded the “Oman Game Jam 2026” video game development camp, held under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Ali bin Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry for Communications and Information Technology.

The camp was organized as part of the “Makin” initiative for digital skills development and was implemented by the Renaissance Institute for Training in cooperation with the global company Unity, with the participation of a number of specialists in the fields of technology and video game development.

The six-month camp targeted job seekers from various technical disciplines who are interested in digital game development. It involved 50 male and female trainees, divided into two main tracks: game programming and design and art.

The program provided participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills, with a strong focus on implementing applied projects using the Unity engine. It also aimed to refine participants’ technical competencies through exposure to the latest technologies, while enhancing their personal and professional skills to improve their readiness for the labor market.

In addition, the camp offered opportunities for direct engagement with the job market and interaction with specialized technology companies. This enabled participants to transition toward freelance work after graduation and benefit from opportunities available in the digital gaming sector at both the local and regional levels.

At the conclusion of the camp, the winning teams of the accompanying competition were announced. The teams competed over three consecutive days to develop innovative video games that reflect Omani identity, are fully integrated in terms of content and design, and free of technical issues.

The “Next Level” team secured first place, followed by “DSHMO” in second place, “Metro” in third place, “Sirdam” in fourth place, and “Heisenberg” in fifth place.

The camp represents a qualitative step in supporting and empowering Omani youth, enhancing their competitiveness in the digital game development sector, and reflects the Ministry’s commitment to nurturing national technical talents and building future-ready digital competencies.
