More than 181,000 digital transactions completed via Naql platform in the first 8 months of 2023

Muscat: The number of digital transactions completed through the “Naql” platform of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology during the first eight months of this year increased by 110 percent, recording more than 181,000 transactions compared to the same period in 2022.

Eng. Haitham bin Ahmed Al Zadjali, Assistant Director of the Land Transport Department at the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology, explained that among the digital transactions completed during the first eight months of the current year were the registration of 84,037 land transport vehicle operating cards and 12,650 permits for transporting exceptional loads coming from outside the Sultanate of Oman.

While 1,290 requests to register a taxi plate were registered, 2,590 requests to waive a taxi plate were registered, in addition to 6,821 permits for rental vehicles and trailers.

He added to the Oman News Agency that, within the framework of regulating smart applications used in managing and directing land transportation and facilitating access to all land transportation services, the Ministry issued approximately 16 licenses for smart applications, including 7 applications specialized in taxis and 6 applications specialized in trucks, including an application specialized for entry and exit.

Trucks from the industrial areas of “Madayn”, an application for public transport buses, an application for school buses, and an application for commercial ambulance buses.

Two licenses were also issued to manage taxis at Muscat International Airport for the “Otaxi” and “Oman Taxi” applications, and work will be done to grant other licenses to manage taxis in Ports, hotels and commercial centers to organize and provide the best services for tourist fare. Regarding public transportation, he said that the number of passenger trips using public transportation buses during the first eight months of this year reached 400,000 trips and more than 5 million passengers on 88 lines, compared to 300,000 trips and more than 6 million passengers on 85 lines during the same period from 2022.

He stated that the Ministry is working with operators of public transport lines in the Sultanate of Oman and the governorates and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning to establish these stations with the aim of encouraging public transport and reducing traffic congestion. He pointed out that work is currently underway on the regulations designated for regular international transport that aim to regulate the activity of transporting passengers by buses to and from the Sultanate of Oman (international transport) to raise the level of transport services, preserve the rights of the parties to the transport process, create a suitable environment for investment, and raise operating efficiency in a way that achieves The highest safety standards and requirements.

He explained that to reduce excessive loads on the asphalt road network, the initiative to control axial loads on the road network has been activated by installing the first smart scale in the North Al Batinah Governorate to calculate excess weights of vehicles and linking the system to the latest modern technologies to contribute to enhancing the quality of the system. Smart scales will be installed. In various governorates of the Sultanate of Oman to enhance quality and establish a control center for land transportation means in which control, monitoring and technical inspection of land transportation means are carried out.

He stressed that work is currently underway to provide yards to accommodate land transportation means to provide temporary accommodation services for land transportation means and their drivers and to provide various maintenance services for these means, as the first truck shelter yard has been licensed in Liwa and initial approval has been given for three other yards in (Liwa, Misfat Bawshar, and Al Mazyouna). An auction was also organized for lands owned by the Ministry to benefit from them in establishing land transportation yards. It is noteworthy that the “Naql” electronic platform enables workers in the field of land transport, individuals and institutions, to complete all procedures electronically, which facilitates and develops the efficiency of the logistical system, as it has been linked to the vehicle registration systems of the Royal Oman Police and the “Invest Easy” platform of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion to verify details. Land transportation means, their drivers, and land transportation activities.
