Muscat Governorate Signs Agreement to Develop Al Khuwair Square Project

Muscat: Muscat Governorate today signed an agreement with Jindal Shadeed Iron and Steel Company to develop Al Khuwair Square project in the Ministries District.

The project, which occupies an area of more than 18,000 square metres, will see the installation of the tallest flagpole in the Sultanate of Oman—which will have a height of more than 126 metres, in addition to many entertainment and sports amenities.

The agreement was signed by Ahmed Mohammed Al Humaidi, Chairman of Muscat Municipality, and Harsha Shetty, CEO of Jindal Shadeed Iron and Steel, a subsidiary of Jindal Group in the Sultanate of Oman.

Sayyid Saud Hilal Al Busaidi, Governor of Muscat, expressed his appreciation for the efforts made by public and private sectors to realize this initiative. He explained that this landmark will serve as a leisure outlet for residents of Muscat Governorate and beyond.

The height of the flagpole will exceed 40 floors according to building standards, and the structure will be made of iron using 135 tons of steel. The outer diameter of the flagpole at the base will be 2,800 mm, while the flagpole’s diameter at its highest point will be 900 mm.

The Omani flag to be erected there will be 18 by 31.5 metres, with its mast fitted with a warning lighting system to alert aircrafts.

In addition to the flagpole, Al Khuwair Square project will have a variety of recreational features, including green spaces, palm trees, walkways and bicycle spaces. In addition, there will be a special exhibition for arts and crafts, an area for skateboarding, and pitch for practicing sports.

Al Khuwair Square, which occupies centre stage in the heart of the capital city, Muscat, will also have other public facilities that will make it a haven for strollers, outdoor sports fans and other members of the public.
