Muscat: Work is underway to assess the requirement for a metro in Muscat, as well as a railway network in the country, according to Eng Said bin Hamoud Al Maawali, the Minister of Transport (MoTCIT), Communications and Information Technology.

“In case of the metro, there is a committee that is studying the possibility and the necessity of a metro for Muscat,” he said. “This committee has recently sent us their first report. Once they conclude their work, we would know the possibility of a metro for Muscat, and when, if possible.

“As far as a train is concerned, this year, we at the ministry are adamant to re-look the possibility of the train project, and the how,” he added. “So there will be some focus this year about this train project.”
