Muscat Municipality Signs Agreement with SQU to Adopt Modern Building Systems

Muscat Municipality and the Sultan Qaboos University, represented by the Faculty of Engineering, signed today (Monday) an agreement of cooperation to benefit from the scientific expertise of SQU in the field of structural and architectural engineering systems.

The agreement was signed by H.H Sayyid Dr. Fahad bin Al-Julanda Al Said the vice chancellor of Sultan Qaboos University, and His Excellency Ahmed bin Muhammed Al-Humaidi, president of Muscat Municipality, in the presence of a number of specialists and officials from both sides.

The agreement stipulates that the university shall provide technical consultations to examin and study materials of modern building systems, while Muscat Municipality receives applications from construction companies to evaluate these systems and ensure that they comply with the safety requirements and the local environment of the Sultanate of Oman. Earlier Muscat Municipality has adopted four modern systems in construction namely: (panel walling system) * Rapidwall*, (Galvanized panels of high strength and endurance) * EVG-3D*, (Insulated Concrete Forms) * ICF*, and (Lightweight aerated concrete) *(AAC)*

DEVELOPMENT OF MODERN BUILDING SYSTEMS

The agreement aims to establish a joint framework with Sultan Qaboos University to benefit from the recent knowledge and modern laboratories of the college of engineering to support Muscat Municipality’s endeavours in developing and adopting modern building materials and systems.

H.€ Ahmed Al-Humaidi explained that this agreement stems from the municipal pursuit to keep pace with the global developments in construction and architecture using up-to-date technologies, materials and methods, and to speed up the pace of urban development in modern ways that are consistent with the current lifestyle of the city. In addition to providing job opportunities for Omani engineers, technicians and those interested in new start-ups and small and medium enterprises.
