Muscat: Nama Water Services Company continues its efforts to enhance the use of renewable energy in operational activities, as it operates a number of its stations and assets using solar and wind energy.

Eng. Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Nuaimi, CEO of Operations and Maintenance at Nama Water Services Company, said that the company is making efforts to enhance the field of environmental sustainability and expand the use of clean energy to contribute to the success of the national strategy to achieve zero carbon neutrality by 2050. It has developed clear plans with specific targets that are being translated into the company’s various operational activities.

He added in a statement to the Oman News Agency: The company operates a number of its stations and assets using solar energy by converting solar radiation and light emitted from it into chemical reactions that produce electricity, in addition to wind energy that is generated through turbines that produce electricity while rotating through the wind.

He pointed out that the most prominent wind power stations are the “Al-Kahl” desalination station in the Wilayat of Haima, which operates using a technology that combines electrical energy, solar energy and wind energy. Electricity is produced to operate the station from 90 solar panels, in addition to 3 wind turbines with a production capacity of 240 cubic meters of water per day.

He explained that the Qarn Al Alam station in Adam is powered by solar energy and supplies a number of homes and companies operating in the concession areas with a production capacity of 100 cubic meters of water per day, while the Wadi Al Sijani well in Samayil operates through 40 solar cells with a production capacity of 10 kilowatts per hour, and produces electricity to operate the Wadi Al Sijani well pump to feed the Wadi Al Sijani tanks, with a storage capacity of 10,000 gallons, which is connected via the tanker station to 80 homes in the towns of Al Sinsala and Wadi Al Sijani.

He pointed out that one of the most important sites for exploiting clean energy is the “Qarun” desalination plant in the Wilayat of Jalan Bani Bu Ali, which operates with renewable energy and produces 250 cubic metres of water daily, which is distributed to the residents of this village. He added that the “Hamra Ad-Duru” station in the Wilayat of Ibri operates with solar energy and produces 39 kilowatts per hour of electricity, which operates the station and desalinates the water produced from the wells, producing about 1,000 cubic metres of water daily, which is distributed to subscribers in Hamra Ad-Duru and the tanker filling station.

Eng. Abdullah Al Nuaimi said: Nama Water Services focuses on accelerating the transition to clean energy in order to participate in national efforts to address climate change and achieve the goals of the national plan to reach net zero by 2050.

It is noteworthy that the Sultanate of Oman adopted the year 2050 to reach net zero and worked to confront the phenomenon of climate change by enhancing the accelerated growth in clean energy and green projects and increasing investment in green hydrogen in addition to increasing green spaces and caring for nature reserves.
