Value of work assigned to SMEs reach more than RO 40 million: Nama Water Services

Muscat: Nama Water Services works to support small and medium enterprises through a number of programs that it adopts, most notably the In-Country Value Programme, which aims to promote and create job opportunities, develop skills, reduce dependence on imports, and develop small and medium enterprises. By awarding tenders and purchase orders, and allocating a percentage of the work to small and medium enterprises as subcontractors by main contractors.

Nama Water Services is also working on a training program for small and medium enterprises in the field of preparing and submitting tenders in a professional and integrated manner that ensures obtaining the tender.

Dr. Barakat bin Amin Al Busaidi, Senior Director of Supply Chain Management at Nama Water Services Company, said: The value of the work that the company assigned to small and medium enterprises during the year 2023 exceeded more than RO 40 million through contracts and purchases.

He added in a statement that the purchase orders that were assigned to small and medium enterprises exceeded the barrier of RO 5 million, while the tenders awarded by the Contracts Department exceeded RO 9 million in the year 2023, indicating that the amount of support provided by Nama for water services to holders of the Riyada card Work from small and medium enterprises by main contractors as a subcontractor in projects by allocating at least 10 percent to these enterprises amounted to more than 11 million Omani riyals.

The Senior Director of Supply Chain Management at Nama Water Services explained that the company is also working to provide training opportunities for small and medium enterprises; To enable it to implement some projects that may face some problems in reading and preparing the tender brochure and adhering to the conditions specified in it, in three areas, including the field of health and safety to ensure the safety of workers in these institutions, and the field of preparing and submitting tenders to ensure the absence of deficiencies and the right to compete and a technical field on the required needs for the work of connecting water and sewage networks in the properties served by the network, indicating that 3 tenders were awarded to carry out work with a total value exceeding 400 thousand Omani riyals in the field of work of connecting water and sewage networks in the properties served by the network.

He pointed out that there are works and projects allocated to small and medium-sized enterprises that hold an entrepreneurship card, which include connecting private and government facilities to the main water network, installing water meters, works to connect private and government facilities to the main sewage network, and works to connect private and government facilities to the treated water network, in addition to allocate work to detect leaks, whether in the main network or internal networks, in addition to many works related to transportation and customs clearance.

Regarding the company’s plans to support owners of small and medium enterprises in 2024, Barakat Al Busaidi said: Nama Water Services Company will raise the ceiling of bids from 50 thousand Omani riyals to 500 thousand Omani riyals, in addition to forming a committee to work on training and developing small and medium enterprises in the field of inspection. It will also raise the ceiling for allocating business to small and medium enterprises.
