NWS celebrates World Wetland Day
MUSCAT: Nama Water Services (NWS) participated in celebrating World Wetland Day as part of the Company’s commitment to achieving the goals of preserving the environment, which helps reduce carbon emissions and achieve zero neutrality.
The company celebrates this occasion, which falls on February 2nd of each year, and the celebration stems from the principle of emphasizing the importance of wetlands and making our environment healthy and balanced.
Regarding this occasion, Salem bin Musalam Al Saadi, Environment Wetland Manager said: “Today we celebrate our participation in this important event, which highlights the interconnection between wetlands and human well-being, through various activities and volunteer work with the participation of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Muscat and the Basmatna Gur – Voluntary Team.”, as a team visited the Ansab Wetland in the presence of the Nama Water Services’ CEO, Qais bin Saud Al Zakwani.
Al Saadi spoke about the international importance of the Ansab wetland, and stressed that tis occupies an international status and are considered wetlands under the Ramsar Wetlands Convention, which is the oldest global agreement in the field of the environment and reflects the Company’s efforts and represents great importance in preserving the environment and sustainable use of wetlands and their natural wealth.”
He added: “Celebrating this day aims to raise awareness about the importance role played by wetland, which are considered a vital habitat for diverse plants and birds, which enhances biodiversity and contributes to the environmental balance in the region.”
During the celebration, opportunities in the Ansab wetland were discussed, and the most prominent components of the lakes were identified, which work to contribute to preserving wildlife and enhance environmental awareness.
Then, the Nama Water Services’ CEO honored the participating entities.
For his part, Jihad bin Khaled Al Farsi, Bamsatna Gur Team President, said: “The participation of the team at Nama Water Services’ celebration represents great importance in seeking to preserve the components of wildlife, and the team always seeks, through its participation in such activities and events, to raise Community awareness and participation in innovative and sustainable ideas and initiatives.”
He added: “We appreciate the distinguished efforts made by Nama Water Services in the field of community services and environmental preservation. We also praise and thank those in charge and supervisors of the Al Ansab Wetland, which is considered the lung of Muscat Governorate.
