NCSI Survey Focuses on AI Use, Risks and Public Awareness in Oman

Muscat:  The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) today began conducting a public opinion survey on the use of artificial intelligence technologies in daily life.

The survey forms part of the Centre’s efforts to monitor digital transformation and assess societal trends related to modern technologies.

The survey will continue until May 28 and targets Omani citizens aged 18 years and above.

It aims to identify patterns of artificial intelligence use, levels of benefit, associated risks and public trust in AI-generated outputs.

Mahfouz bin Salem Al Mushrafi, Director of the Public Opinion Measurement Department at NCSI, said that the survey seeks to measure the extent of artificial intelligence use among members of society and identify patterns of use in terms of fields, frequency and motives.

He added that the survey also aims to monitor the impact of artificial intelligence technologies on improving performance and reducing or increasing errors.

Al Mushrafi explained that the study addresses perceived risks associated with artificial intelligence, particularly in sensitive topics, as well as the extent to which users enter personal data into AI applications.

He noted that the survey also measures levels of trust and reliability in artificial intelligence outputs and examines how users verify information generated by AI tools.

He affirmed that the results of the survey will contribute to identifying priorities for regulation and intervention, developing awareness and training programmes and determining the skills required for the safe and effective use of artificial intelligence technologies.
