National Committee for Following-up Sustainable Development Goals 2030 holds first meeting

Muscat: The national committee for following-up the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030 held its first meeting today under the chairmanship of Dr. Said Mohammed Al Saqri, Minister of Economy, Chairman of the Committee.

The meeting reviewed the tasks assigned to the committee after its reformation, most importantly supervising the preparation of voluntary national reports to follow up the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals 2030, as well as monitoring the progress achieved on this regard.

During the meeting, the committee discussed the proposed methodology for preparing the second voluntary national report, which is scheduled to be presented next year at the high-level political forum (HLPF) of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, and the time frame for its preparation. This move reflects the commitment of the Sultanate of Oman to sustainable development as one of the main pillars of Oman Vision 2040.

The committee also reviewed the preliminary results of the central dashboard for the goals of sustainable development, which represents an informational monitoring of the progress made in achieving the goals, objectives and indicators of the seventeen goals at the national and governorate levels until 2022.

The committee also discussed the formation of the national work team and small technical task forces, which include all the main partners from various government and private units, civil society institutions, bodies and the academic sector to ensure cooperation, coordination and concerted efforts among all partners in monitoring efforts in achieving the 17 goals of sustainable development.

It is worth mentioning that an official delegation will represent the Sultanate of Oman in the high-level political forum of the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, due to be held in New York City during this month. – ONA
