Health Minister Presides Over Launch of International Evaluation for National Rescue Team

Oman Begins International Assessment of Search and Rescue Team’s Heavy-Level Readiness

Muscat: The activities of the international evaluation of the National Search and Rescue Team commenced today, marking a major step toward upgrading its classification to the Heavy Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) level.

The evaluation reflects the commitment of the Civil Defense and Ambulance Authority (CDAA) to strengthening the national emergency response system in accordance with international standards. The opening ceremony was held at the Authority’s headquarters under the patronage of Dr. Hilal Ali Al Sabti, Minister of Health.

The ceremony featured a documentary on the CDAA, followed by a special film showcasing the National Search and Rescue Team’s field efforts, its high-level preparedness in managing various incidents, and its international participation in relief missions—most notably during the 2015 Nepal earthquake and the 2023 Türkiye earthquake. These contributions demonstrate the team’s professionalism and its adherence to global operational standards.

Participants toured the Authority’s laboratories and training facilities and viewed presentations of the latest equipment used by specialized teams. The event also witnessed the launch of advanced vehicles designed for hazardous materials incidents, affirming the Authority’s robust readiness and enhanced capability to respond to a wide range of emergencies.
