Oman’s Statistics Centre Rolls Out 2026–2030 Strategy for Integrated Communication

Muscat: The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has launched its Communication Strategy for the period 2026–2030, as part of efforts to build a more integrated and effective institutional communication system that enhances message consistency, expands outreach and strengthens engagement with various segments of society.

Dr. Khalifa Abdullah Al Barwani, CEO of NCSI, said that the launch of the strategy reflects the Centre’s commitment to developing a more efficient and flexible communication framework that enhances the value of statistical data and reinforces NCSI’s position as a trusted national source of information.

He noted that the strategy focuses on improving the clarity and consistency of communication messages, enhancing the performance of communication channels and tools, and adopting a partnership-based approach that ensures the delivery of data in simple, transparent formats tailored to the needs of decision-makers, researchers, students, media professionals and the wider public.

Dr. Al Barwani explained that the strategy is founded on key objectives, including: raising community awareness about the importance of statistical data for development; increasing utilization of NCSI’s digital platforms for research and education; strengthening the Centre’s communication identity and media presence; promoting transparency and reliability by presenting data in accessible formats; and expanding partnerships that support sustained, two-way engagement with the public. It also aims to reinforce internal communication to build a multi-directional communication culture within the institution.

He added that the strategy features a phased implementation programme with short-, medium- and long-term initiatives focused on content development, improving user experience and expanding communication impact. These include awareness campaigns on NCSI’s digital platforms and services, the production of visual content to enhance statistical literacy, qualitative initiatives such as establishing a digital media studio for professional media production, and programmes to promote a deeper understanding of data concepts among community groups. Future projects include the production of documentary materials and visual reports that present information in modern and impactful formats.

Dr. Al Barwani indicated that the strategy’s monitoring and evaluation framework is built on performance indicators for each initiative and platform. It relies on digital analytics tools to measure results, supported by periodic reports and annual reviews to ensure responsiveness to emerging needs and data-driven decision-making. This approach enhances continuous improvement and ensures measurable impact.

He affirmed that the strategy places strong emphasis on sustainability and risk management by documenting communication processes, building institutional knowledge, strengthening strategic partnerships and preparing an emergency communication plan alongside an integrated framework for institutional reputation management. These measures ensure NCSI’s readiness to address various scenarios while maintaining public trust and reinforcing its role as the national authority for data and information.
