New Covid strain: Oman confirms first case of new coronavirus strain found in UK

Muscat: Oman announced the registration of the first case of new variant of Covid-19 found in United Kingdom and other countries.

The genetic mutation of the Covid-19 virus was diagnosd in male resident, who came to the Sultanate from the United Kingdom and the respiratory symptoms have appeared while undergoing health isolation, and his test for Covid-19 have been undertaken before and at arriving in the Sultanate of Oman: All public health procedures have been enforced to deal with the infected person, who is now in good condition and is subject to home isolation.

The announcement confirms the alertness and readiness of the system Health in the Sultanate to monitor, diagnose and deal with public health events and emergencies, which include preventive measures in the border entry points, epidemiological surveillance and raising diagnostic capacities in the central public health laboratories

The Ministry of Health calls upon citizens and residents to abide by the decisions of the Supreme Committee on avoiding travel outside, except in case of extreme necessity.
