Muscat (ONA) : A research team from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) managed to design a phone application named “Dr. Electron” that seeks to provide scientific concepts and to correct misperceptions for students in various scientific fields, particularly physics, chemistry, biology, environmental sciences, geosciences, astronomy and space sciences in a fun and engaging way for learners.
The application was funded by the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation. It obtained intellectual property from the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion.
The research team consisted of Prof. Sulaiman Muhammad Al Balushi, Professor of Curriculums and Science Education at the College of Education, and Huda Ali Al Hosani, a PhD student at SQU.
The application comes in response to the recommendations of many international studies that suggest the need for a phone application based on the concept of gamification in teaching scientific concepts for students.
The researchers hope that the application will contribute to raising the level of educational attainment of learners and increase their motivation to learn.
